Appreciate the sounds of the world as you celebrate among many cultures at the World Music Festival in Sines, Portugal.
Since 1999, the World Music Festival (Festival Músicas do Mundo, or “FMM”, for short) has been held annually in Sines, Portugal at the end of July by the charming castle that the city is known for. The largest music festival in Portugal is also the defining cultural event of the year in Sines.
The first festival was organised as a means of making use of the castle, and with a booming success, the annual event was born. Now, the purpose of the festival is to bring people together from all cultures to hear and appreciate the music styles from many countries and areas.
You can expect to hear pop and rock as well as jazz, blues, reggae, fusion, and folk music.
For 2013, the dates of the festival are from July 18 to July 27 and covers the diverse sounds of Mali, Pakistan, Germany, France, and more.
“The way the festival is put together is very unique. It helps us feel at home, because there is so many different kinds of music playing here… There’s great, serious, legitimate music. For us it’s inspiring and also a little bit humbling. That’s good for a showâ€
