Take some sausage, add a little ingenuity and flare, tie it in with some great wine, and you have the best darn festival in Hungary!
The Hungarian Csabai Sausage Festival began in 1997 and has become a delicious annual tradition well-revered as one of the most significant festivals in Hungary. Every year, the crowds get larger as locals and visitors flock to join the celebrations.
So, what are we celebrating?
Sausage-making, of course!
For four days, theÂ festivities keep you entertained with live music and contests such as:
- sausage making,
- stuffed cabbage making, and
Competitors range from restaurant-class chefs to savvy home-cooks, who battle to come up with the best – and most authentic – Csabai sausage. It’s not all about flavour though – presentation counts too! Over 500 teams from across the country gather together every year to test their skills, and even pick up some new ones.
A nice addition to the Csabai Sausage Festival is the accompanying wine festival. Try some of the region’s classic wines to wash down all those sausages you’ve eaten!
The festival this year is being held from October 24th to the 27th, 2013 at theÂ Coliseum of BÃ©kÃ©scsaba.
Admission is free, but to purchase anything from the vendors, you’ll require cash – no debit or credit cards can be accepted.
