Music makes the world go ’round, and Rabat, Morocco knows how to get things moving with the annual Festival of Music.
The capital of Morocco comes alive every year at the annual Mawazine Festival. This gives Rabat the opportunity to celebrate the love of music with people from all over the world, while also promoting the country’s acceptance and tolerance of all races, cultures, and orientations, despite backlash from local Muslims who insist that the festival encourages immoral behaviour.
The dates for the 2014 event have not yet been submitted, but a look back at previous years shows exactly how important and popular the festival has become. With world-renowned musicians like Kenny Rogers, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Mika, LMFAO, and Pitbull, with spotlights on lesser-known local artists, the nine-day festival is all about diversity and appreciation.
The festival, however, is not limited to the stage – street shows and parades light up the city with excitement, and talented musicians share their knowledge with anyone who wants to know.
